School of Modern Herbal Medicine

Get Trained as a Professional Herbalist
In Your Own Home or Office with the
School of Modern Herbal Medicine

The School of Modern Herbal Medicine is unique because it involves a combination of webinar based classes, correspondence courses and live classes.  We currently offer two levels of training, our Certified Herbal Consultant (CHC) program and our Certified Professional Herbalist (CPH) training program.

Certified Herbal Consultant (CHC)

The CHC program is designed to teach people the basics of herbal medicine and natural healing, and provide them with the skills and information they need to be able to competently recommend commercial herb products. All the courses in this program are available as correspondence courses and we also have instructors who offer many of the courses as live classes.  All the correspondence courses contain DVDs and some contain webinar recordings you can play on your computer, mp3 player or audio CD player.

The eight CHC courses can be purchased individually or as a complete set. As you successfully complete each course, we issue you a certificate of completion for that course. When you complete all eight we issue you our CHC certificate. You also have the option of becoming an instructor in this program, so you can teach these classes in your own area.

Purchase the complete CHC program in our webstore, or learn more about any of the indvidual courses by clicking on any of the course titles below.

Certified Professional Herbalist (CPH)

Our CPH program will be a three-year course of student designed to help students acquire the knowledge and master the skills to become professional members of the AHG.  Currently we're teaching the Advanced Herbal Training portion of this course via webinar. More information on the Advanced Herbal Training Program can be found below. There will be a total of nine modules in this program and all the modules will become available as correspondence courses after being taught as webinars.

When we have completed the Advanced Herbal Training program we'll be adding additional modules on Anatomy and Physiology for Herbalists, Diseases and Pathology for Herbalists, Advanced Herbal Formulation and Medicine Making, Field Botony and Clinical Assessment Skills.  Some of these modules will be taught via the internet, others will be live classes. Our goal is to create a program to help students become professional members of the AHG.

Advanced Herbal Training Program

The Advanced Herbal Training Program is the first part of our Certified Professional Herbalist Program. In each of the ten modules in this series, we focus on herbs for a particular body system or purpose, such as remedies for the immune system, cardiovascular system, digestion or detoxification. Each module consists of five two-hour webinars for a total of ten hours of instruction from two skilled professional herbalists, Steven Horne and Thomas Easley.

In each class, Steven and Thomas cover a group of single herbal remedies for that system in great detail, profiling each plant's botany, phytochemistry, folklore and energetics.  You’ll not only learn new herbal remedies, you'll also discover new uses for herbal remedies with which you're already familiar.  But, the class won't stop with single herbs.  We also provide you with comprehensive lists of commercial herb formulas from about 50 different companies that utilize these single remedies.  When you're done with this program you'll be able to read the label of any Western herbal formula and understand what it does.

Each module consists of five two-hour webinars for a total of ten hours of professional instruction in modern herbal medicine from two skilled herbalists. This is more instruction than you'd receive in a one-day live class and you'll have no travel expenses.  To attend almost any professionally taught one-day live class would cost you between $150 to $250 just for the class, plus hotel, meals and possibly even airfare, which means attending a weekend seminar can cost as much as $800 to $1,000.

With this webinar technology you can get ten hours of instruction in your own home for just $157.  And, you'll have the recordings and materials to review as often as you like.  Plus, we'll give discounts for early registration, which can save an additional $30 and get all this instruction for just $127 per module.

Here is a list of the modules in this program.

Module One: Herbs for the Immune System

Module Two: Herbs for the Circulatory System

Module Three: Herbs for the Respiratory System

Module Four: Herbs for the Nervous System

Module Five: Herbs for Detoxification (Hepatic and Intestinal Systems)

Module Six: Herbs for the Glandular System (Thyroid, Pancreas, Adrenals)

Module Seven: Herbs for the Digestive System

Module Eight: Herbs for the Reproductive System

Module Nine: Herbs for the Fluid Regulation (Urinary and Skin)

Module Ten: Herbs for the Reproductive System

About Our Webinars

A webinar is an internet-based class, which you can listen to over the phone (long distance charges would apply) or over your computer using voice-over internet.  You can also view the PowerPoint presentations for the class on your computer or follow along with handouts you'll be able to download from a password protected class page.  You'll also be able to ask questions by typing them in during the presentation.

If you miss a live webinar class, don't worry, each class will be recorded and you'll be able to download the recording from a password protected class page.  The recordings will be in two formats: wmv (windows media video) which you can view on your computer using Windows Media Player and mp3 (audio only) which you can listen to on an I-pod or any other mp3 enabled device.
